Replacing
tuner sets or changing to a different brand or style of tuners is technically
a job for a professional luthier. If you choose to make it into a do-it-yourself
project, it is important to be able to take accurate measurements,
an inexpensive metal machinist ruler that shows 64ths is very helpful.
Proper installation tools may also be needed, such as a reamer. Mass
produced guitars may have very slight variations from one guitar to
the next. Generally, this isn't a problem, but we can't guarantee that
a specific part will work on your particular instrument. When measuring
neck holes, keep in mind, that on vintage spec guitars, the hole size
on the back of the neck is smaller than on the front of the neck. It's
important to measure your bushing correctly when replacing tuners, because
the size varies. Please see our

on use of adapter bushings: American Standard |
Changing
Fender American Standard Tuners to Authentic Kluson tuners: Fender states that the peg hole diameter on the American Standard neck is 13/32" or .406" - when changing from stock tuners, with screw in bushings and metal pins instead of individual tuner screws to Authentic Kluson tuners, either TK900 or TK905 adapter bushings should work. We recommend removing a tuner and checking to see if the tuner shoulder fits tightly in the hole, if so TK901 should work. If it fits loosely, TK905 might be a better choice. If, when trying to install the adapter bushings, it is slightly too big, you may need to sand the inside of the peg hole slightly. |
