PLEASE READ BEFORE ORDERING or BUYING A GUITAR BODY:
All guitar bodies are handmade in Washington State. Our guitar body templates are from original 50's and 60's guitars, not reissue models. Our vintage style finished guitar bodies come in 5 different grades or styles:
#1 New: Not available from GR Guitars. Modern colors or traditional colors from the 50's and 60's that look similar to the way they did when new. All lacquer finishes will change somewhat over time, including shrinking or sinking into the grain, for this reason we suggest you buy a guitar with a polyurethane finish to achieve this look. If you are looking for a hard, thick finish our type of vintage style finish is not for you.

#2+ Tinted: slightly aged with tinting, looks like a vintage guitar that has been played very little. This finish over Swamp ash will usually shrink into the grain over time for an authentic look. Over alder, there is less shrinking of the finish, but there still might be a little. A frequently played guitar will acquire wear marks and the paint will be more easily dinged or damaged than a hard finish like catalyzed lacquer, polyurethane, etc.

#3 Aged: Looks like a well-taken care of but definitely played vintage instrument- a few small dings and aging tones added to body and finish. Usually had a little edge wear around bottom and sides of guitar. Finish will eventually shrink into the grain, especially if over swamp ash. Wear marks will continue to appear over time.

#3+ Aged w/light distressing-A little arm wear on the lower bout, a small amount of wear near the pickguard,if desired, a few dings and edge wear. Add'l $25 over base rate.

#4 Distressed: Buckle wear on back, dings and dents, worn off finish near pickguard and lower bout, looks used and abused. A real "player". Add'l $35 charge over base finish price.

#4+ Distressed-most of the finish worn off. Add'l $50 or more over base finish price.

Please Note: We do not use hardener in our vintage style finishes. This means a longer cure time before shipping and that the finish probably will not stay in pristine condition over time, it will continue to age and will get banged up during normal use. In our opinion, the tonal quality will be superior because of our high quality wood and the type of finish used. A finish adds at least $250 to the price of one of our unfinished guitar bodies.
About lacquer checking: Exposure to very cold temperatures will often cause a lacquer finish to check. Placing the guitar in direct sunlight or very warm conditions will make the checking less visible. This process is not something we can control very well, but we do occasionally offer it on some of the distressed guitar bodies.

Sorry, we don't finish any wood other than our own. We also don't do refinishing or distressing of guitars that aren't ours. We're not taking special orders at this time. Will be adding more to Ready to Ship listing.
