unfinished guitar body-double cutaway 60's style,
tremolo bridge routing. Pickup routing is 5/8" deep for vintage
style single coil. Use with any of the Strat replacement necks &
11 hole pickguards we sell. Average weight is
between 4 lbs and 4 1/4 lbs. Our alder & swamp ash guitar bodies are bench made, not produced by computer operated CNC machines. The alder is locally grown and milled. Swamp ash comes from southern USA. Each body is made individually to provide the vintage vibe. The neck pocket is routed to standard Fender specs for necks listed on the Ready to Ship page or any new licensed by Fender necks. Most used necks will work except the Made in Mexico Fender's which usually have a wider heel. Our blueprints for the guitar body were established by taking measurements from dozens of original 1960's guitar bodies that came through our shop for restoration or refinishing. Neck pocket is 2 3/16" wide at widest point, 5/8" deep. |

Differences
between the 50's style body and the 60's. The 1960's style alder
guitar body is pictured on the left and in the closeup of the control
cavity and bottom pickup. Basic outside shape is same size (camera angle
below makes them appear different sizes, but they're the same) 60's
control cavity has an extra bumb to allow for an add'l pickup screw
hole in that area. The worm hole in the bottom pickup routing has an
"L" shape. The 1950's style has a straighter worm hole and
the smoother shape of the control cavity routing is made for an 8 hole
pickguard. On the back, the side cut on the 1950's goes higher up on
the horn and the cut is further in toward the center and is a little
more exagerated..
Wood Choice: Alder is most often used for opaque finishes and a 2 or 3 tone Sunburst. It is not suitable for some semi-transparent vintage style finishes, such as the Mary Kaye blonde. The natural color of the wood may make semi-transparent white finishes have a pinkish undertone. Swamp ash has more pronounced grain and often has interesting patterns in the wood, it looks great with a see-through finish. For a smooth opaque finish, it will need to be grain filled before painting. Swamp ash is usually lighter in weight than alder. The less dense wood will cause the finished guitar to sound "brighter" than a guitar made with an alder body. |
